With a whopping 84 miles of coastline, and temperatures that hover in the eighties, finding something to do in South Florida is easy. The climate here is perfect for year-round, outdoor activities including snorkeling, swimming, fishing, surfing, water-skiing, jet skiing…you name it!
For divers and snorkelers, Miami Beach is an underwater mecca – thanks to one of the best artificial reefs programs in the world; you can explore more than 30 sunken ships, two oil platforms, a pair of U.S. Army tanks, hundreds of limestone and concrete structures and more. (This helps explain the nickname, “Wreckreational Dive Capital of the Americas.”)
Did you know that Miami is the only place in the U.S. with two national parks? Be sure to spend an afternoon at Everglades National Park; its untamed ecosystem is unlike any other on earth. Hop on an airboat and see it all up close and personal. Biscayne National Park is the only living tropical reef within the continental U.S. In fact, most of the park is actually under water! You can enjoy a glass bottom boat ride, kayaking among the mangroves, and more.
For a trip back in time, tour some of Miami’s historical landmarks including The Freedom Tower in Downtown; Vizcaya, an Italian Renaissance villa; or the Barnacle State Historic site, the oldest house in Miami, located right on the bay.
History can also be found on the golf courses of Miami. Since the 1920s, this town has been a golfer’s heaven, with blue skies and challenging greens. Whether you seek the greatest challenge of your life or an easy nine holes, you can find it here.
