Work In Miami

Options as Diverse as the City Itself

There are few places in the world that can compare to Miami and the lifestyle it provides. After all, here you’ll find year-round, tropical weather; wide, palm-lined beaches; a variety of cultures; and opportunities galore.

Working in paradise is certainly enjoyable, and it may be easier than you think. With its close proximity to Latin America, Miami is known as the “Gateway to the Americas.” As such, you’ll find over 500 multinational corporations who have offices and headquarters here. Some of the larger companies based in Miami include: Alienware, American Airlines, Cisco, DHL, Microsoft, SBC Communications, Burger King, Sony and Disney.

Another big business is the Port of Miami – it’s one of the nation’s busiest cargo ports – and as the Cruise Capital of the World, it only makes sense that many of the world’s largest cruise lines (Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, NCL, and Carnival) have their world headquarters here. But there’s more to Miami than tourism (even though it’s the number one moneymaker for the city). Here are the top ten largest businesses in Miami based on market capitalization:

  • Lennar Corporation
  • Carnival Corporation
  • World Fuel Services
  • Ryder Corporation
  • Royal Caribbean Cruises
  • Southern Wine and Spirits
  • Brightstar
  • Watsco
  • IVAX Corporation
  • Norwegian Cruise Lines

Healthcare is also big business in South Florida. Miami-Dade County has the largest concentration of medical facilities in the state, with more than 29,000 health care professionals and 28 hospitals. (The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is the second-largest public hospital in the nation.)

If your career involves banking, Miami is the place to be. There are more international banks located in Miami than any other U.S. city.

If aviation is your passion, Miami International Airport has the third highest international passenger traffic in the United States.

Altogether, about 68,000 firms are located in the Miami-Dade County area, with new companies opening every day. So in addition to beautiful sunsets, there are great opportunities on the horizon in Miami’s job market.
